O.J. Simpson: New “Hypothetical” Confession
New O.J. “Confession” to Murder?

What still shocks me about the O.J. Simpson case, after covering it for the last 24 years–the double murder, the trial, acquittal, civil conviction, the racial divide –is this: people keep asking me, “Is he guilty?”
Finally, an OJ confession, in a 2006 TV interview with Judith Regan, embargoed until it aired on FOX News. OJ Simpson “hypothetically” speaking.
Back then, a new “alt” killer theory floated daily– “OJ’s arthritis… his bad knees… too disabled, too weak to knife Nicole Brown Simpson and brave friend Ron Goldman, to death.”
Not.
O.J. stayed in pretty good shape, looking fit in an exercise video, and learned on the set of a TV pilot, Frogman, that never aired, how to convincingly slash a throat, courtesy of a real life Aussie SAS commando script consultant I interviewed.
But ….Nicole did party…with a Dream Team fueling speculation, and tabloid Magpies conjuring whispers, lies, sex, cheating, OJ jealousy…a nose candy lifestyle…. What about the Nicole drug dealer payback for unpaid cocaine debt theory? Nope.
Friends told me it was Nicole who was trying to get OJ to cut back on Brazilian Marching Dust, not vice versa. It was OJ who hoovered coke, sharing it with a limo driver and a relative I once interviewed, among others.
Whew…
OJ LA was celebrity manic, so much spin, so little time. Debunking bogus spin was like playing Whack-a-mole for Dummies: The OJ Reality Show, raining unfiltered, unsworn rumors on the LA jury pool a year before one was seated. Pick a card, any card: police conspiracy? OJ framed? Mark Fuhrman planted the bloody glove? ..Nope.
OJ now admits he took off the gloves to get a better grip on the knife, lapsing into first person from the “hypothetical.” He admits dropping the glove. That means Det. Fuhrman was telling the truth.
For so long, it’s been disheartening for the crime victims’ (the Goldmans, Nicole’s, even legendary writer Dominick Dunne, whose daughter was murdered, and who often reported my CNN scoops in Vanity Fair and in his novel, “A City Not My Own”.)
The day of the verdict, he was horrified, in turmoil over what he saw as justice undone…But as a favor, agreed to sit down with me for a Greta Van Sustern interview. Bespectacled, white haired, he climbed the scaffolding to CNN’s OJ High Up Leggoland studio on thin legs, as a rowdy crowd danced in the streets below to celebrate OJ payback. So unjust, he said, then furious when Greta called him “anarchist.” I tried to keep him from bolting, but he took off his mike, and headed out.
Flash Forward…Dunne never lived to see the cocky killer get sentenced to prison, 9 years, convicted of being armed and stupid … and now freedom…
Guilty of armed robbery? Sure. Overcharged, likely…But –no, don’t ask it–“was he really guilty of double murder?”
Go watch the Simpson sit-down from 2006 that aired last night, and you will never ask that question again with a straight face…The DNA nailed him way back, when Barry Scheck bored the jury to sleep or disbelief. No longer.
Listen to OJ go from “hypothetically,” to discussing how he grabbed a knife and used it on Nicole and poor Ron Goldman, lapsing easily, naturally into first person.
Not Guilty can no longer be an option for even the most ardent OJ apologist, even among those who he reached out to save him he’d left behind long ago.
For years, he was still looking for the killer. We haven’t heard that one for a while. Why? OJ hasn’t said so, but if you hear the interview, it’s obvious he’s found him.
And not on a golf course. Every time O.J. Simpson looks in the mirror, looks up from brushing his teeth, looks in a TV monitor…he sees the killer… staring back…At him.
